Secondary Schools

At eleven years of age, pupils transfer to a Comprehensive System.

A booklet giving details of the system for transfer is provided by the Local Education Authority in the school year preceding transfer.

St. Catherine’s is a feeder school for St. Mary’s Catholic School and many children aged 11+ transfer to St. Mary’s. Parents are, of course, free to choose any of the City’s Schools in which to place their children, and in previous years children have transferred to Sacred Heart, St. Cuthbert’s, Jesmond Park Academy or to the independent sector. We work closely with the Catholic Family of Schools in Newcastle, running joint classroom and professional development initiatives.

All admissions are determined by the Governing Bodies of the secondary schools concerned (subject to appeal).
